Procedure following a death

At Eternity Funeral Services, our experienced local staff are available around the clock to personally answer your calls, day or night. They are here to guide you through the process outlined below and can arrange for your loved one to be brought into our care.

A Doctor will verify the death

Contact your chosen funeral director

The funeral director will arrange to transfer your loved one to the funeral home.

Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD)

A doctor will issue a Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD). They will email this to the appropriate registry office.

Registration of death

You are required to contact the registrar to arrange a face to face appointment.

Registration of death should take place within five days but this is not always practical and should not cause concern.

Next of kin will attend registry office and the registrar will:

  • - Register the death
  • - Issue the certificate for the burial or cremation (green certificate free of charge). This is usually given to the next of kin to pass to the funeral director, but may be forwarded electronically to the funeral director
  • - Issue the DB8 for DWP
  • - Provide, for a fee, copies of the death certificate
  • - Assist with the “Tell Us Once” procedure

If a death is unexpected, the coroner will become involved. This occurs in approximately 50% of all deaths in the UK. Your loved one will be released to the funeral director only after the cause of death has been determined.
